Alliance Baptist Church

A Fully Open and Affirming Southern Baptist Congregation dedicated to Loving God & Loving People

Rembering the Rock From Which We Were Hewn

The Establishment of Alliance Baptist Church is one of Great Joy! Although we have had our trials, We have overcome them by the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11). Alliance Baptist Church (Formerly Ambassadors of Christ) began as a seed that grew in the heart of one man who desired to see a Church that was for everyone. Having our roots in the Southern Baptist Church, we found that being part of the Southern Baptist Convention would not be feasible to meet our purpose. Therefore we ventured into God's Word, the Bible, and did our best to learn what it meant to be the Church. In 2009 we felt God's leading to join with our Sisters and Brothers of the movement know as Alliance of Baptists.

The Rev. Richard J Lee, with a handfull of others began to study and pray, asking the Lord to show them what means to be His Church. We found the following points to be important:

 To live God's Love and Compassion as completely as possible;

 To live as a Community of Jesus Christ in our neighborhood and city;

 To become an anti-racist, pro-reconciling congregation, bringing together God's people of different races and cultures;

To live as an "Open and Affirming Congregation," creating a community that fully includes the faith of Gay and Lesbian Christians;

 To reach out to eachother in care and support in the face of illness, grief, and pain;

 To enjoy and celebrate life together as we meet Christ in every person we encounter;

 To serve God by loving all God's people,

 To nurture the faith through open and honest study of God's Word, and;

 To work for Christ's peace and justice in the lives of those who are oppressed so that all may know Him and live in joy.

Having found our direction, Alliance Baptist Church held its first worship service on October 22, 1995 at 2010 Missouri Avenue in Saint Louis Missouri. It was here that Rev. Richard J Lee was called to be our first Pastor. We later moved to 2109 South Spring Street, and in 2001 to 4667 Idaho Avenue. We came to understand that the church is not a building, it is the people. We currently meet at the Pastor's residence at 4049 Iowa Avenue.  We have had the same Pastor for 14 years. We have grown in many ways. One of these ways is by the practice of Radical Hospitality and Prayer.

Something new is happening in this congregation, we are becomming a community of prayer and a people of a Mission, a presence of prayer and hope in the city. We are still discovering what that means for our life and ministry as a Community of Faith.

What we know is that as we pray for people we are all changed. As we pray for the healing of racism, we have become more radically committed to being a multi-racial congregation.

As we pray for the end of the fear of homophobia, we become more radically committed to creating a community that heals the pain that divides.

As we pray for eachother, we are transformed by the radical hospitality of Jesus Christ who received the broken, the outcast, those society deemed unworthy and loved them as God's own!

We welcome you to visit us simply because you are welcome here.
